ELTI

The Environmental Leadership and Training Initiative (ELTI), a joint program of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (F&ES) and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), is a program intended to enhance the capacity of key decision makers and practitioners from the Neotropics and tropical Asia to restore and better manage and protect forest ecosystems and biodiversity. Focus countries include Panama, Brazil, Philippines and Indonesia. Dr. Ashton is the founding member and was the PI for ELTI from 2006 to 2017. He is currently the faculty advisor on the steering committee, and has helped to facilitate ELTI’s online materials and educational programs. He also serves as an instructor for the programs and engages with tropical forestry professionals. The Tropical Native Species Reforestation Information Clearinghouse (TRIC) is an educational tool about reforestation with native tree species in tropical Asia and the Neotropics. Search for reforestation projects and literature, learn about other restoration efforts, and feature your own work.
